Lansdowne, VA – The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is pleased to announce a new College Scholarship Program for high-performing high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend the nation’s best four-year colleges and universities. The application period will run from late August to early November 2013. The Foundation will select up to 40 students nationwide for this generous scholarship opportunity in February 2014.

“We are looking for outstanding students across the country who stand out in their communities for their academic abilities and achievements, persistence, leadership, and demonstrated desire to help others,” said Emily Froimson, vice president of programs at the Foundation.

Students selected will become Jack Kent Cooke Scholars and have access to college planning support and ongoing advising, the opportunity to network with the larger Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholar community, and up to $30,000 per year for four years to attend an accredited, four-year undergraduate institution.

To be eligible, applicants must plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2014 and intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2014; earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above; receive a SAT combined score of 1200 or above and/or an ACT composite score of 26 or above; and, must demonstrate unmet financial need. A rigorous application review process will consider grades, standardized test scores, participation in available advanced courses, student essays, letters of recommendation, and family finances.

“The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program offers more than just financial support by providing Scholars with one-on-one advising about selecting a college and navigating financial aid and by offering multifaceted programing about how to transition to college and maximize the college student experience,” said Froimson. “We want to ensure that our Scholars have all the tools necessary to choose the right college and excel once they get there.”
