Work collaboratively with the CFO and Director, Financial Planning & Analysis to manage accounting functions and workflow of the finance department.  Duties include managing monthly closings to ensure complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, and financial analysis for the Foundation.  Manage annual audit and complete audited financial statements.  Responsible for coordination and completion of 990PF.  Develop, maintain, and monitor internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.  Assist with other projects as required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop, implement, update, maintain and monitor internal controls and accounting policies and procedures. Stay up-to-date on current authoritative accounting pronouncements, and accounting trends and practices and develop and implement new processes and procedures as required to comply with new guidance.  Recommend and implement accounting treatment and policies in accordance with current requirements for new, evolving, and existing programs.
  2. Generate monthly financials for Foundation Management. Support the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis and the CFO with quarterly variance letters to the Board of Directors. Manage monthly and year-end closing and ensure accuracy of financial data by reviewing general ledger detail and reconciliations, analyzing variances to budget, and reviewing source documents in accordance with the Foundation’s internal controls. Review accounting treatment of Foundation expenditures, oversee preparation of supporting schedules and ensure reconciliations are complete.
  3. Serve as key point of contact with outside auditors and manage annual audit with Grant Thornton. Coordinate with the CFO, Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, and other Foundation Staff to prepare annual audited financial statements.  Duties include, preparation of audited statements including disclosures, review of all account reconciliations, coordinating and collaborating with audit team, and compilation of annual audit documentation.
  4. Work closely with CFO and Director of Financial Planning & Analysis to assist in producing an accurate and complete budget, including high-level analysis as well as detailed account information. Responsibilities include providing expense analysis by function or program, supporting Staff in preparation of specific budgets (i.e., Information Technology), and coordination of closings to support budget deadlines.
  5. Work closely with the CFO, Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, Senior Financial Analyst, and external tax preparers to complete the Foundation’s 990PF and related schedules. Manage coordination and deadlines and ensure all schedules are completed and reviewed prior to submission to tax preparers.
  6. Manage and provide guidance to those under your supervision. Create and maintain an environment that will promote smooth workflow and teamwork across the organization while maintaining segregation of duties.  Encourage professional development and ensure adequate training for your team.  Work closely with the CFO to maintain a cross-training program to ensure coverage of critical finance duties.
  7. Collaborate with Finance, Information Technology, and Program Staff to ensure accounting information systems and supporting databases are functioning effectively and providing accurate reporting. Examples include Great Plains Dynamics financial software system, the Microsoft Dynamics Management Reporter financial reporting system, Concur expense and invoice software, and Payroll integrations.  Participate in conversations and projects to enhance, upgrade, or replace software applications as appropriate.
  8. Assume special projects as assigned by the CFO & Treasurer. Flexible to manage numerous tasks simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines. Proactive in initiating and implementing new processes and procedures in order to automate and streamline accounting functions while maintaining a strong control environment.
  9. Complete surveys (i.e., FFOG, Census, etc.) and ad hoc reporting as required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • CPA required.
  • Minimum of ten years of accounting experience.
  • Must possess and understanding of databases and demonstrated experience in process improvements, in particular those related to technology improvements or implementations that involve complex databases and/or integrated software applications. Ability to use Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.
  • Management Reporter and Great Plains Dynamics Accounting System experience is preferred.
  • Experience in management of staff and accounting functions to ensure that all work is completed as required while managing changing priorities and multiple tasks.
  • Strong operational and analytical skills necessary to develop and maintain accurate and timely financial, tax and grant reporting and compliance in an evolving, dynamic environment.
  • The Foundation follows a 35-hour work week schedule for full-time positions. Exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as needed to perform the duties of the job.
