Leesburg Today Features Colin Powell's Keynote at Scholars Weekend
Powell Urges Scholars To Embrace Failure In Achieving Success
Addressing 400 Jack Kent Cooke scholars Friday night in Lansdowne, former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell had a strong message: Embrace failure and learn from it.
“Failure is a part of life. I fail at something every day,” Powell told the students at The National Conference Center. “It’s not whether you fail, it’s how you get over it and apply what you’ve learned.”
The students—all identified as having financial need and exceptional skills and supported by full college scholarships from the Lansdowne-based organization—gathered at the conference center for the weekend for a wide array of activities, including hearing Powell speak and watching a video message from First Lady Michelle Obama.
