Making Global Connections: Santiago Tobar Potes

Cooke Scholar Santiago Tobar Potes was born in Cali, Colombia before moving to Florida. In high school, he attended the School for Advanced Studies, Wolfson campus in downtown Miami. Now he’s on the move again –  this fall, Santiago began classes at Columbia University.

Santiago is studying both philosophy and economics to contribute to international diplomacy. He’s already made some impressive global connections.

Over the summer, Santiago completed an internship with a Colombian senator and he recently received a grant from the government of China to learn Mandarin. This will be the seventh language he can speak fluently. Santiago also notes that his fellow Cooke Scholars are “just an incredible community of people” that have “inspired me to work even harder.”

And he has a message for current high school seniors:

“See how far you can go! Apply today!”
