Alquan Higgs
Dean of Scholar SupportAlquan Higgs is a Dean of Scholar Support at the Foundation, providing academic advising and support to the Cooke College Scholars and Cooke Transfer Scholars.
Before coming to the Foundation, Alquan was a coordinator in the Office of First Year Experience and Leadership Development at Marist University. There, he led large-scale orientation and first-year student success programming and oversaw a comprehensive peer mentor program. Alquan relied on cross-department partnership building and collaboration to bring engaging and inclusive programming to students. He also served as a lecturer in the School of Communication and Arts; his courses focused on developing public speaking and presentation skills.
Alquan has been committed to leadership development and inclusive programming from the start of his career. First, he supported the programmatic efforts of the ALANA (African/African American, Latinx, Asian and Native American) Center and the Engaged Pluralism Initiative as the President’s Administrative Fellow at Vassar College. Later, as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Connecticut, Alquan advised top tier student organizations and coordinated a leadership training program for student leaders.
Alquan is a native New Yorker. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and an M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of Connecticut.
