Educational Adviser, Young Scholars Program

As an educational adviser, Bethany Hewett provides academic advising and access to educational opportunities through the Foundation’s Cooke Young Scholars Program.

Before joining the Foundation, Bethany was a Senior Admissions Officer at Duke University, where she led the “Duke Bound” program for admitted students demonstrating financial need and coordinated Duke’s partnership with the STARS network, a collaborative effort to recruit and support rural students at highly selective colleges. Prior to being an Admissions Officer, Bethany served as a College Adviser in Duke’s College Advising Corps, supporting over 400 high school students at Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville, NC, as they navigated the college admissions process during the pandemic.

Originally from Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, Bethany earned undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and Religious Studies, with a minor in Earth and Ocean Sciences, from Duke University.
